Prayer is the centre point of life with God. It is where we get to share everything with the creator of the universe. It is the place we can bring all our cares and concerns, it is where we can stand in the gap and ask for healing, it is where we listen and respond to the voice of God as we seek to live for him. It should be woven into the fabric of very lives.

Prayer is vital to all we do at Oasis Community Church. That is why we have a daily rhythm of morning and evening prayer.

WEEKLY WEDNESDAY MORNING

We gather every Wednesday morning at 7:00am on Zoom for 20 minutes of prayer together. The Zoom link is available through our WhatsApp Community Prayer Chat.

PUTTING IT INTO PRACTICE

Jesus bookends his most famous teaching in Matthew 5-7 by saying we are to put into practice what he teaches (Matt 5:19 & Matt 7:26) and the warning for those who don’t is pretty dire.

It is not enough to acknowledge these practices as good, or understand how to do each of them, we are to put them into practice. Practice doesn’t mean perfection, it means starting somewhere and working at them until they start to serve us in being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus and doing what Jesus did.

We have guides to different ways of praying, prayers for different times of day and also an archive of prayer resources, including devotionals from previous seasons of prayer HERE

HERE ARE SOME PRAYERS YOU CAN USE THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY.

One way to stay in connection with God is to interrupt your day with prayer. This is something the monastic tradition has practiced for generations. At certain times throughout the day you stop for prayer. It is not that you stop when you remember to pray but prayer is the priority, it is was makes up your day and all the activities in between are orientated around prayer.

For the monastics this meant at certain times a bell would ring. No matter what the monk was doing, they would put it down and go to pray.

Now this may not be practical in your life depending on work or family life. However you could set a reminder on your phone for midday then make your way to a quiet space, or visit the toilet at work, and take a couple of minutes to pray.

This is one way we can seek to pray without ceasing and allow prayer to be what shapes our day, giving moments to deepen our relationship with Jesus.
